  Very moving monument - quite intense to visit as then one can almost feel the emotions that the statues of widows, mothers, sisters and daughters transmit. Very important to remember that not all is glory in the death of a soldier - and to remember all he left behind.

  One must see place in Minsk. A memorial for Belarussian soldiers who were died or hurt during Russian war with Afghanistan. It's a man-made island on the river, across Trinity Hill. There's a tiny chapel. The island can be visited free of charge. The island is like a little park, with willow trees, flowers, greenery, and benches. Lovely. It underwent a major renovation when we're there.

  This is a memorial for the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the Soviet war with Afghanistan. The war lasted for nine years and the Soviets eventually lost. Hundreds of soldiers died in the skirmishes and this monument seeks to commemorate them. It is located on an island created in the Svislach river. The main structure here is shaped like a chapel and is open on all sides. Surrounding this monument are statues of women and children in mourning, said to represent the families of the soldiers who died. Inside the monument, the names of the martyrs are engraved in the walls. This is one of the few monuments in the world that was built in a country that lost the war commemorated by the structure. There is a statue of a crying guardian angel in the memorial complex that is said to be disheartened as it failed to protect the Belarusian soldiers. If you look closely, you will see water dripping down from the figure’s eyes into the pool below. Overall the atmosphere here is quite serious and nostalgic, but it is worth a visit to spend some quite time in Minsk.

  While I've been here, I felt sad , this place is a man made island attached to the historic Trinity district of Minsk by a footbridge, dedicated to the soldiers who perished in the conflict involving Soviet forces in Afghanistan .Built at the end of the war in 1988, the island's focal point is a small chapel surrounded by statues of those who were left to mourn the dead - widows, mothers, sisters. Inside the names of over 700 Belarusian soldiers who died in the war are inscribed. You'll also find a statue of a young guardian angel who continues to literally shed tears for those lost in violent conflict worldwide.
